CRAFTS
Malaika edited Crafts, the bi-monthly international art and design magazine, from 2018 to 2022, orchestrating a major redesign and giving it a fresh vision and purpose. The magazine shows how making can enhance all facets of life – from the homes we live in to the clothes we wear – and drive social and ecological change. Over last few years, it has accelerated the revival of making in the UK and beyond. Malaika also raised the magazine’s profile and presence, making it the global authority on contemporary craft.
Recent features by Malaika include a look inside the extraordinary art collection of Brian Clarke, the ‘rock star of stained glass’; a profile of Anya Paintsil, a textile artist blazing a trail; and an interview with Spandita Malik, a photographer challenging power structures.

THE SPACES
Malaika was the founding editor for The Spaces, a design and property magazine launched in 2015 by Vinyl Factory Publishing. She created the concept, commissioned the identity, hired the team and secured PR ahead of launch, as well as content partnerships. The online magazine grew fast and continues to thrive today. During her time as editor, The Spaces hosted countless events, talks and published two books.
ISLAND, BY CARUSO ST JOHN AND MARCUS TAYLOR
Malaika helped the architecture practice Caruso St John and artist Marcus Taylor bring to life the ideas behind their installation for the British Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale in printed form. Exploring an island as a place of refuge and exile, the book includes contributions from artist John Akomfrah and poet Kate Tempest, among others.
